My first boating related stupid human trick.

The Coast Guard Auxilary at Lake Nacimiento, CA has figured out how to even out the traffic flow at the north launch ramp. They tie up their two boats to the dock, taking up half the available space. Some other knucklehead has left their big 'toon tied up at the launch side of the dock. This leaves exactly ONE space for other boats to tie up.

I am on my own on Sunday. I pull up to the docking area in my boat and see three of the four slots taken up. I wait a moment or two to see if any of the boats are going to leave soon. While surveying the situation a boat zooms past me and ties up in the last space left. 5 minutes later someone leaves the boat and makes their way up to get the trailer. They back their trailer down and load up. I slide in right behind them and tie up. They are drunk and somewhat belligerent. I guess I was supposed to wait until they were completely done loading the boat before I came within 40' of them loading the boat. I tied up my boat, took they keys out of my boat and went and got my trailer. The Aux traffic management technique was working great. There were several other boats who would have docked, except that there wasn't any space.

I went and got my trailer and backed it down. I jumped out of the 4runner, jogged over to the dock, untied my boat and pushed off. I reached over to start the boat, and NO KEYS. I left them on the front seat of my 4runner. DOH...

The Aux guys came over, caught a line, and pulled me back to the dock. Once I had the boat keys, loading up went fine.

A harmless error, but stupid.
