One must know the make, year, and horsepower of the engine in order to help.

Do you mean it wont crank or it wont run.
You need to be specific.
A motor needs gas and spark to run.
too much gas it may not start or run right.
Not enough gas it may not start or run right.
No spark no run.

Chances are you checked all the stuff people recommend right? Spark plugs, carb and the like well I have found fuel starvation the number 1 cause of problems on the water. Fuel pump get a diaphram kit. Wished I had known this before going 2 boating seasons this way.

Re: Sick of getting pulled off the lake!

Guys.. he says what the motor is at the bottom of the post:
"It is a 50 horsepower Evinrude made in 1982"
82 50HP Rude....
step 1 is to make sure the primer bulb is hard when you try to restart it.
step 2 would probably be to pull a plug when the problem occurs and check its condition.. is it wet??? if you have a stuck float or similiar, you might even be flooding it. while you have the plug out, test for spark by holding the plug thread hard against the block and turning the engine over.. (do this with the plug lead on. :)

corse if the engine isn't even turning over then you have to check the
battery/key-switch/soleniod/starter system.

tell us more about the problem and we will see what we can do...

Once thing I found that helped my old evinrude, (alot older then yours) was to keep a squirt bottle full of premix handy, then when I had the problem, I'd pull the cover and squirt a shot down the carb throats.. and it would then fire first shot.

good luck,

rgds

frank
