side bunks or not

my boat stays on trailer 90% of the time, to the river and back, it's a pain to clean and polish it because of the side bunks. I'm thinking of cutting them off to better polish the boat. I do have the add-on guides at the very end of trailer to see the empty trailer when backing up. any opinions on this would help me decide which way to go! thanks...

Either way, if you like it better without them it's only you that needs to be satisfied. If cleaning the boat is more important, or more of a hassle than loading the boat to you, then remove them.

This is just my personal opinion, I would keep the side bunks. The can help load a hull, especially on a windy day. And the also can keep the hull on the trailer is it happens to get loose from the bow or transom hold downs. But like I said, this is only my opinion.

As for shining up the hull, you can always slide the boat back when shining it and then wench it back in place again. Just a thought. I use to jack up the hull to wax the areas that were sitting on the bunk/runner when waxing up the boat. Just have to work around such things. JMHO

wouldn't be able to slide the boat back then forth, it weight is about 3600 lbs. dry and it's just me doing it. the side bunks maybe 1 time helped us out, but my son that was driving it never put it on the trailer only off, he did hit the side bunk and it took me a good hour to straighten it out...the rear guide do a better job because with 2 people in stern each can grab and push or grab and pull to even it up. we do a lot of river launch and recover so it really wasn't a loading issue.
