Working on my side pockets and air vents while waiting on other stuff to cure. I have two side vents and one main aft vent out the back. The factory boxed in the side vent openings under the cap and fiberglassed the wood bottom from the bottom. This creates and "air box" to collect and channel the air. So, needless to say the way it was designed, water can get in through the vent and land directly on wood that is only painted with black paint and not glassed on the top. In the pictures below, you can see the wood at the bottom of the vent and then in back is a 4 inch hole (third pic) for vent tubing to run the vent air back into the engine bay. I am not going to pull the cap on this 22 foot boat just to fix these boxes. The wood is rotted but has held its shape. I am thinking about elevating the front of the boat and then pour and brush polyester resin in to coat the wood as best I can. Comments?
