To my surprise as I'm a regular standard TCW-3 oil user, have found that plugs fouls less and tip stays a lot cleaner compared to. Would you say that all synthetic brands achieves this condition, are there brands and brands. Although bottle says that smokes less, have found to smoke near same as standard oils.

Yes synthetic does generally run cleaner. But they are not all the same so the results will be different. Right now by me in WI It's getting harder to find regular oil because synthetic blend is showing up more and more. So I see the future being full synthetic especially with the DFI motors showing up more and more.

I troll a 200 HP, carbureted motor at idle for hours at a time.

I tried a number of different brands and formulation before I found one that didn't load the motor up over time. Cheap Wally world oil was the worst. The motor would shut down the minute I took it out of gear. Switched over to Pennzoil Premium Plus (synthetic blend) and thing improved greatly. then ran a couple of gallons of Ran a couple of gallons of Pennzoil full synthetic thru it with more or less the same results. An improvement, but not enough to justify the extra cost.

Finally settled on Evinrude HD 50. Performs better than Premium Plus but not as well as the full synthetic. HD has carbon guard in the formulation so there is no need to add a separate carbon additive which make up the difference in price.

Gee, my 150HP carb'd Johnny will troll for hours on Wallyworld TCW-III without issue. My OMS pump assures a fresh 60::1 mix.

I never use any additives during the season. I therefore think tuning is more important than what kind of oil is run.

I've been running the Pennzoil 100% Synthetic in my C90 2 stroke for several years and plugs stay pretty clean, no carbon on piston crowns, maybe less smoke....but at $47/ gallon it's getting pretty expensive$$$$..... Guess I'll just keep using it....

I'll second that.

I have Rudes, Johnsons and yes, even a crappy Merc and none of them could care less about what oil I use. But that finniky Yami smokes like a bandit unless I use HD 50. The worst oil I ever used in it was Pennzoil synthetic.

I know nobody wants to hear it, nor believe it, but not all oil is created equal.

I use penn xlf in my 60 etec and I am totally satisfied with it.Zero smoke, but then again any oil ive used so far has had the zero smoke effect so far.in my old 90 I could troll for 7 or 8 hours with little smoke or ill effect from the xlf formula.Semi synth and pretty cheap at 18 or less a gallon.

Will it be safe for OB to add standard 2 strokes oil over 2 gallon fuel mix leftover mixed with Syn to count with 4 gallons or better comsume most of it, then switch to standard oil ? At double the cost of Sierra Full Synthetic, will keep sticking with Yamalube TCW-3 at less than $7.00 a quart and clean plug tips once in a while.
