Sierra Audible Alarm problem

I have a 1979 Century with a repower 1997 5.7 carb and thunderbolt 4 ignition MR drive. I added a sierra audible alarm that wires to oil pressure and water temperature. I used a regular 350 oil pressure sending unit as the second pressure sensor, as the first is wired to dash oil pressure guage.

the problem is that when I turn the key on, before start, I know the alarm should go off, before the engine builds pressure. It does not. if I ground out the lead from the standard oil pressure sender wired to the alarm with key on, alarm sounds.
question: should the regular sender work on the alarm, or do I need a special sender?

help appreciated!

I have a 1994 Proline with dual 350 MC TB iv. My alarm has a 15 -20 delay before going off. With ign switch on, pull wires going to temperature or oil SWITCH (not senders) and ground to some engine metal. You will have to check manual for color codes. I believe mine are tan. Or, gound using a test light. Your alarms should sound in around 20 seconds. Mine has two capicitors in a delay device. I suspect MC was thinking about your neighbors.

Regular switches. as far as I know. Remember that temperature switch closes at 200+ degrees.

You can use a two or three pole switch for the oil. The two pole like used on many GM model cars just provides a connection to ground. The three pole will also provide a pass throuh of the 12V back so a light can be used.

Sierra Oil Pressure Switch Univ.

Ayuh,.... That's a Problem, right there,....

Senders use varyin' resistence to ground to show various levels on the gauge,...

Alarm Switches, just go directly to ground, at a set point to buzz the buzzer, 'n light the light,...

Thanks for the feedback guys. Bondo, if I understand you correctly, the temp and oil pressure "senders" are really just on/off switches. What oil pressure, besides zero are the switces set to? Thanks!

Re: Sierra Audible Alarm problem

I put the proper senders in and it works as it should (go figure....)
The alarm sounds with key on until engine starts. I guess you just trust the water temp As it is set to 280 D.

Thanks Bondo
