Do any members here have an opinion about the quality differences between GLM, Sierra, Mercruiser and Mallory parts. I'm planning on replacing the transom seal kit on my Alpha 1 Gen II for preventative maintenance and want the best value for price. Are any ones to be avoided based upon your experience?

Seals are all the same. Same material, probably the same manufacturer. Gears and other metal/internal items might be a different story.

For seals, go with the best price!

As many of you know, I have been working on boats for a living for many years now. But will confine this to the last 10 years.
The first 8 of that I used OEM only for Merc and Volvo. Now, for most things I have to use aftermarket. Would I use aftermarket on my boat.

NOT A SNOW BALLS CHANCE IN HELL!

Coming from a professional marine mechanic who has MANY times demonstrated his knowledge and proficiency in boat repairs, I think this says it all! :)

Re: Sierra-GLM-Mallory parts quality

whenever possible I always try to go with OEM parts for everything on my boat. I figure if it was good enough when it was built it should reliably keep it running. I didn't buy the cheapest boat why should I trust the cheapest parts.
