I just heard that Sierra parts are not very reliable. I need to buy a coil, should I go OMC which costs $20 more or is Sierra just as good?

Re: Sierra replacement parts for OMC

I've been using the Sierra parts for years through NAPA and have never had a problem... coils, waterpump impellers, carb kits, gaskets, etc. - all have been of good quality and I have not had a failure on any of them...

For the coil Sierra will be fine. The only negative stuff i have heard of was some defective impellers from Sierra awhile back..
I have used a ton of Sierra-Napa marine parts with no problems.

Remembering that our host, iboats, sells Sierra we should speak honestly but with respect for where we are.

Sierra does not make that stuff. They buy it from "vendors". The vendor that supplies coils probably is not the same vendor that supplies impellers. However, Sierra is the one responsible for quality control and accepting or rejecting the vendor's products. Yeah, I know, ultimatly the end user (us) decides.

I have found their coils to be good. I also have heard some serious reports concerning impellers and wrong/missing parts in carb kits lately.

Thanks for the input. Well said. i went ahead and bought the coil from iboats I rebuilt my cards with OEM parts so that makes me feel better on your statement. Think I'll go OEM impeller when I replace that part as well.

I was about to go buy an OMC impeller and called every dealer in town. The impellers are going for $40 or more when the Sierra impeller is $21 online with iBoats. Can anyone provide me another online store to get OMC parts from without paying through the nose?

I've used some Sierra parts without problems but I have found the prices thru NAPA to be the same or more than the OEM parts lately. Chief Chief

Yep,napa is getting pricey with the Sierra stuff. But sometimes its worth the extra few bucks to get parts the same day.
Living here in NC i can order from Ebasicpower at 4 pm and its on my door step the next day..

Nobody should seriously imply or believe that Bombardier "make(s) that stuff" either.
Aint that the truth...but they get the big price tag for it..

That's true. However, OMC/BRP engineered the originals and blueprints that their vendors had to follow. Aftermarket stuff is a "copy". Sometimes a good copy and sometimes less. And almost always by the lowest bidder.

That's not to say that BRP doesn't award the contract to the lowest bidder too. I am a retired purchasing manager and am aware of the real world. Pennies count.
