Had my 45hp Chrysler running great yesterday, took it out on the lake today and didn't have a whole lot of power so let it idle out to the middle. Shortly after giving it some throttle, it began smelling like something was burning and then she died.

Damn thing over heated and siezed. Anyone know how big of a repair this is going to be? Thought water ejects out with the exhaust but now I think I may be wrong.

you might have a bad impeller and it isn't pumping water up to the engine. Siezed motor you might as well tear it down and sell it for parts and get a new or rebuilt one to put on it. the chances of rebuilding a siezed motor is slim to non.

Spray some WD in the cylinders.Marvel mystery oil helps. Then try to turn it over. When it turns over do a compression test.Post your results. It might be as simple as a head gasket or a re-ring.What year, model?J

It's a '76 model 459BF. I popped it into gear this morning and gave the prop a little crank by hand and it seems to be free but on closer inspection, I found a crack in the head. I'm sourcing a reman for it. I'll have to wait till Tuesday to get a compression tester as it's locked up at work.

Finally got around to doing a compression test. 93 lbs on both cylinders with throttle wide open.
