or at least a sign that I'm getting old fast.

Went in to get a fishing license today and after punching in the code from the old license the kid says, "Would you like to buy a lifetime license?"

In Iowa you can get a lifetime license for 52 bucks if you're over 65. I was 65 on March 19. I usually get a license earlier than this so I wasn't thinking about the lifetime option this year, but what the heck. All I have to do is live 3 more years and it's free fishing license for the duration. Have to start living healthy, I guess.

Fishing license and park permits for two vehicles... a little over $60 this year. Up until a few years ago, the prices kept going up and they were actually REMOVING services from the local lakes, at least the ones closest to me. At one point they removed the trash cans. Ya... that didn't go over to good.
Lately though, they've added a lot of things so I'm happy to pay.

I have a lifetime license on my vehicle, because it is over a certain age and my hunting/fishing license is free for life due to being a disabled vet, good perks, but most days, I would prefer to have to pay for my license every year!

Iowa tried an annual $10 park sticker about 20 years ago but finally gave it up after a couple of years of screeching and moaning from once a year park users. Sometime in the late 90s they removed the garbage cans and dumpsters because so many cheapskates were dumping their residential garbage in them. Signs all over saying to carry out your own garbage which means some of us are carrying out everybody's garbage. Of course, the 3 big holidays are a complete disaster. Nothing says Memorial Day like finding disposable diapers floating out in the middle of the lake.

Isn't that the truth, I know around here, no cans, but plenty of garbage to carry out! Every once in a while I get lucky and find a pile with a piece of mail in it and I will box it up and send it back to them!

Jeez we gotta renew ours! Thanks for the reminder!!! Fishing license is the only bargain we get from Illinois. $13.50 a year,if it hasn't been increased. Still, with the cash shortage our state government has,I wouldn't mind paying a lot more IF the bulk of the money goes to the DNR..
