I bought this sikkens Cetrol satin for the boat. It seems to be really nice, but the problem is, is that it doesn't say to sand between coatings which is good.

It requires 3 coats. And I finished the 2nd one today.

Now when I go to put the gloss on, it doesn't say to sand. But heres the problem: Why does it say not to sand when the grain is raised?

JAZZ ;)

Re: Sikkens Please help!

I have used Sikkens HLS for years and have found that it rubs down fine with Wet and Dry sandpaper. If you add a little detergent (washing up liquid) to the water it helps. It is certainly the best varnish substitute I have ever used and will last longer. As I don't know what type of wood you are using it on I would maybe suggest sanding a small area where it would not be too noticable first. However I think it will be fine. I believe the reason that it says not to sand is to allow the coat thickness to build to achieve higher protection however if you are not happy with the finish you will have to give it a light rub, probably followed by another coat before you apply the final gloss. Good luck.
