Silly bugger!!

I was trying to determine the year of the 30 mariner on the back of the boat I just bought and posted the cast mould no. which is only the first three digits of the serial no. in my title and accidentally left the rest out. The full serial no. is L 689 401 521 which I believe is a 79 model, It seems to be pretty much the same motor as mid 80s. I can't find any info on whether its japanese or american.

if its an EL model, think thats what the L is in serial, then its a 1979

Yeah thats what I thought! but looking through the specs in the 1977-89 mariner manual it looks as though they didn't make a 30hp in 79, thats definately the serial no.

Lake mac's actually in Australia. A little bit like florida, its damn hot and we've got plenty of big reptiles that like to jump out and bite you on the bum if you're not careful!! Hope to catch you again in the forums
