Silly GPS question

I may come into a Garmin 178c sounder, it needs an external antenna.

Will an antenna for a Sirius satalite radio work, is that the same thing or no, they both pick up satalite signals and have the same connector on the end so I don't know.

My knowledge of these goes as far as you turn it on and it tells you where you are.

No. You will need a Garmin GPS antenna. Different sats send on very different frequencies.
