 How is the upper unit oiled? is it pumped up from the lower unit or what. Other than greasing the U-Joints I can not find any reference to lubing the upper unit.

On a Mercruiser,......<br /><br />The Upper,+ Lower Oil Cavities are Joined at that Little Oring that always falls out of place, When you're trying to reinstall the Lower to the Upper,... Goes..........<br /><br />It's "Oiled" when you Fill the Outdrive..........

Re: silly question

It is an R/MR/Alfa. When I change the oil, I alway stop when oil starts flowing out of the upper vent. I just didn't understand how the upper unit got oiled.

Re: silly question

The oil fills the uper housing just like Bondo says. Through the oil passageway that is sealed by the quad seal. The oil needs to pump out the vent when filling the outdrive to purge air pockets that would otherwise form in the drive. Air = No oil. No oil in the outdrive = $$$$$$$$$.<br /><br /> ;)
