Similarities in v4 models please help

I have a 1988 88spl

Thinking of getting a spare parts motor..


I see many v4. From earl 1970-s thru 1990


What years will share common electrical with my 1988 88 special?

What years will share common lower units?


Any feedback appreciated

Hi, I have a 1988 88spl, I just got a 1979 140, the main differences I have found beside the 140 having bubble back exhaust, : the coil packs/ coil wiring, the wiring arrangement on powerhead, the throttle linkage, the 140 still has the old choke system. I can't tell you for sure but the lower units & tilt n trim look identical. Hopefully someone will be able to give you more specific answers.
