I don't know if anyone else has tried this, but I have an old 3hp motor that I had to throw the gas tank out due to rust and leakage, and it was either spend 50 or so bux for a new outbord fuel pump or devise a pressure type fuel tank like the old Johnrudes used in the 50's. Answer: a heavy duty one-gallon (or larger) garden pesticide sprayer. Remove the hose and the wand, attach a quick-disconnect fitting to the tank outlet, run a length of fuel line to the carburetor. Fill the tank and give it a couple of strokes and you can run for an hour or more (less for larger engine) before you have to give it another stroke or 2. I was amazed at this; the gas does not harm the pump in any way, and it works like a champ! I can't wait to try it out on my old Evinrude 5.5 fisherman which if it works well will enable me to leave my big heavy metal 6gallon pressure tank at home. For anyone who has an older motor and can't find a pressure tank, this will work at a fraction of the cost of retrofitting a fuel pump. Just make sure to use good quality fuel line and secure all connections as you don't want any leaks.
