I have just purchased my first REAL boat motor...It is a 1981 Johnson 7.5 horse model #J8RCIC....I just need to know what the gap is on the spark plugs and how much oil I should mix to one gallon of gas....Please use U.S. standard terms because my knowledge of the metric system is as old as I am.....Thanks and I hope to make new friends here on this site....Jack

Re: SIMPLE QUESTION 4U not me

Use 2.56 ounces of oil per US gallon for 50:1 mix (128/50).

Synthetic or synthetic blend TC-W3 will reward you with less plug fouling and carbon build-up.

Re: SIMPLE QUESTION 4U not me

You are right this is a GREAT little motor, once it starts after only 2 pulls now it runs without a hitch or jerk...I disposed of the old gas and oil mix in the tank that came with the motor and put in the TC-W3 oil and gapped the new plugs correctly and runs like NEW!...I love this motor it is the best $248.00 I have EVER spent....Thanks again for the advice you were all a GREAT help!...I figure I am going to learn alot from this sight....Jack

Got another motor but having problems....Help???

Got another motor but having problems....Help???

Well I got another motor it is a 3.6 horse Sears Ted Williams model #217 58511....It runs fantastic but the carb leaks like submarine with a screen door...I think that the float is somehow stuck because the bowl looks like someone has been beating it into submission. I went to SEARS.com and ordered a new bowl and float kit for it since they don't just have a complete rebuild kit...If anyone knows about a rebuild kit for that motor ( I think it is a Tecumseh) Could you please let me know? Other numbers I found on the motor are 643-15A....6504242......26031...I have no idea what they refer to but the first two sets of numbers were one a tag attached to the motor and the last set was SET in the block of the engine itself....Anyway any advise or help would be used and appreciated...Thanks Jack
