Simple question(maybe)

I am new to outboards, I am a big block fan but I bit the bullet and bought a new pontoon boat! It does not have an engine! It had a 2006 Merc 4stroke 115hp installed and all the controls and wiring are still on board. It has a Merc control box and ignition panel. I want to put a Yamaha or Honda 150hp engine. Is any of my wiring or controls usable? What do I need if I goto a diff brand??

controls and motor wiring are brand specific. i would look for a merc as controls can be $3-400.

Also a Merc 4 stroke is probably a Yamaha with a Merc cover on it anyway.

I think I heard something about Merc swicthing away from Yamaha and making their own 4 strokes, or Yamaha decided to stop making them for Merc or something, but I'm not sure what year that happened.
