Simple question.

I will be installing a new floor here soon in my 17 foot Starcraft aluminum open bow. I have seen other boats having some type of "vent" in the middle of the floor between the drivers and passengers seat.

What is this? And what is its benefit? Any benefit in installing one in an old 17 foot aluminum?

Just curious.

Re: Simple question.

The only thing I can think of is the teak covered ski storage bay you are talking about. That is the only thing I have between my driver and passenger seat.

Re: Simple question.

Sure this is not the drain into the bilge?

Re: Simple question.

Theres usually a drain in the bilge cover, but the cover's intent is to get at the skis and other junk thats been left in the bilge for a couple of years. If it's not a junk access cover, it's likely just a drain into the bilge.

Re: Simple question.

Yeah, I have seen both storage and what looked like a drain.

This clears it up; thanks all!

Re: Simple question.

there are large rectangular one that are ski/storage lockers, then the are the round ones that are just access/inspection hatches, and then there are drains. with built in gas tanks it is best to put an inspection hatch, over the fill tube, vent, and sending unit. for easy access and servicing. why all manufacturers don't do it i have no idea.
