Hey guys,
I have a 2006 Mercruiser 4.3 MPI and I am sure it has a fuel/water seperator but I don't know where it is. I have heard of these things but honestly have never seen them.
Can someone point me in the right direction? How often do you replace it?

It looks like an oil filter. should be mounted on the lower of the engine near the front. You can't miss it, but remember not all engines have one.

We will need your engine serial number, There is a 50/50 chance your filter dose not look like the one in the photo shown, They have come out with a new design somewhere around that timeframe of your 06 boat.

Re: simple question

Same here, I replace mine once per season, part of my annual maintenance ritual. I have the 4.3L MPI as well, vintage 2003. Have fun getting it to break loose. For some reason, no matter how I stick to the installation instructions (oil the gasket, hand tighten no more than one turn), the bugger doesn't like to come off. It's not an easy reach on my boat so I remove the entire assembly and bolt it to my workbench where I can get at it much easier.

Re: simple question

Hey guys,
I started this thread a ways back and am finally getting around to changing this thing out. I went to get at it over the weekend. I decided not to take the filter off before asking-when I take that thing off is fuel going to spew everywhere? It looks like an oil filter mounted upside down, do I just unscrew the cap from the bottom, switch the old filter for a new one, and screw it back on? Or maybe I need to shut off fuel flow somehow first?
thanks again!

Not sure if your motor has one, but if it does it is usually white in color and looks like an oil filter. If its there you can't miss it. It screws on the same way too.

Re: simple question

the seperator can also be mounted in different areas......possibly near the gas tank.
follow the fuel line from where it comes out from under your deck.

Yes, it's going to leak fuel when you loosen and spin it off. Put a decent-sized zip-lock bag under/around it and just drop the filter right into the bag.

Ayuh,... Gas ain't gonna Spew from it, you'll get a few loose drops, 'n whatevers in the filter...

The baggie trick JoLin speaks of is what I do, along with a fist full of paper towels...
Being a EFI motor,.. You may have to install the new filter prefilled with gas...
I've had a few problems with 'em, not picking up the fuel by themselves...

Re: simple question

Thanks for the extra tips guys. I only need the filter right? Not the entire assembly?
