Simple questions on oil change

Hi,

My question is where can I find instructions for changing motor oil on my engine (1993 4.3LX/V6 Alpha One Thunderbolt Ignition, serial number OF0244564). The service manual (#14) does not describe this. Basic questions are: What grade oil? How much of it is needed? How to pump the old oil out?

Thank you for suggestions.

SAE30 oil, stay away from multigrades if possible.

About 4-5 qts. You will use the dipstick to get it perfect.

You can open the drain plug on the pan, drain into the bilge, then drain out the back of the boat into a pan. Then wash the mess out with lots of degreasers or solvents. OR just buy a cheap suck gun at harbor freight and suck it all out from the dipstick tube.

That's because #14 is just for your stern drive. For your engine, you need either #7 (1983-1993 Engines, GM V6) or #18 (1993-1997 GM V6 Gen II Balance Shaft) depending on whether your engine has the balance shaft or not.

You don't want the straight 30 weight unless you do all your boating in less than 50 degree F (10 degree C) weather.

Your choice on whether to listen to the advice from someone you know NOTHING about on some BS internet forum, or follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
