Single or Double Hull

I have to decide which single or double hull....many people said Double Hull is best for rough waves. Not sure if its true or not...any comments or thoughts?

EDIT from post #10 Double hull means catamaran!

Rough waves that capsize a boat. Always go with a single hull. They can sometimes be righted. Or will roll to right side up on their own.

2 or 3 hulls capsize ? They stay upside down till a crane arrives. Especially a sail boat.

I can only assume your talking about a catamaran.

Yes, excellent rough water, yes, requires a lot less HP to push. They have a couple of handling quirks but overall a very seaworthy boat.

My only complaint is that they are butt ugly. My neighbor has a 27? World Kat so don?t tell him I said they are ugly.

I guess will will wait for wind speed & wave heights. L & W of boat. Power or sail & type of hull style.

nope.......a double hull is either a ship with a hull inside a hull......or a boat with 2 hulls joined by a platform....this is called a catamaran....some sail boats are catamarans

The marketing used to sell Catamaran Power boats is that they ride on a cushion of air, such that the bumps in rough water are softened. However, anyone who has followed Powerboat racing will tell you that the cats are faster than the monohull boats in smooth water, but cannot go as fast as the monohulls in rough water.

That would indicate to me that the monohulls are best for rough water, and the marketing for catamaran power boats is hype or more likely just lies.

ok....now im really confused......

we went from cat to tri to v.

jbrphill ....we need more info......what kind of boat...power or sail...what kind of water you want to boat in ....where....give is as much info as you can ....and we can help guide you to the best ideas you you can make the most informed decision.....

but we are now all over the board.
