Well, as some of you know I had a 88 Bayliner with a 5.0 OMC for 23 years which I swapped engines in and knew very well inside and out. This month I ran across a newer boat and decided to upgrade. It is a 2003 Caravelle Interceptor with the Merc 5.0 MPI Alpha One. It has the Merc single point drain system and I have read a few negative comments (particularly from Bondo regarding the inability to remove "crud") and since the reason I swapped engines in the old boat was from freeze damage. I am skeptical about trusting all of the water is out of the system by simply using the single point drain. Obviously there are two solutions, get in and manually remove the hoses etc and drain or add antifreeze. Since the second option seems less work, where is the best place to add the antifreeze?? Seems not so easy to get at the thermostat housing on this one. The older model OMC had far fewer hoses and I could drain everything in about 5 minutes or less.

Ayuh,... Your new block is pretty much the same as your old motor,...
You Know where the block drains are...

for Me,... The Only option is to yank all that junk off there, 'n use 2 brass hex pipeplugs,... 1 each side...
Ditto for the manifolds, 'n such...

It's a New barge, Now is the Perfect time to figure this thing out, 'n make life Easier in the future....
Ya kept the last barge 23 years,... May as well get this 1 Comfortable now, as later...
