Single yellow spark

Hi All,
I have an '81 6 Hp sick Sea-Horse with only one fairly weak looking yellow spark when the plugs are held against the block. If I swap the orange wires coming from the power pack the spark moves from one plug to the other, so I assume both the coils (and plugs) are fine. I've checked the ohms readings on the stator charge and trigger wires and they are within spec. To my mind this only leaves the power pack as the likely problem. My questions are....are there any other checks I can do to confirm the power pack is faulty before I go buy a new one, and does the yellow (not blue) spark point to the power pack also?. Thanks.
p.s. just tried swapping the timer base wires from the stator and this made no difference.

Re: Single yellow spark

Sounds like power pack to me. I wouldn't be concerned about the spark color. Fat blue sparks went out the window with the introduction of CD ignition. But the available spark voltage is much higher and quicker.

Thanks for the reply F_R. Will seek out a replacement power pack and let you know if it does the job.

Re: Single yellow spark

Ok..so I replaced the powerpack and now I have 2 sparks, however she still won't start. The sparks to my mind don't look particularly strong when the plugs are out and held against the block. Could it be that under compression they're not sparking at all ?. If so where do I look next ?.
The only other possibility is lack of fuel. The plugs don't look wet even after several minutes of pulling on the starter, not do they or the cylinder openings smell of fuel. There's fuel pressure at the carb inlet hose so lines up to there are ok. I took some fuel from the tank and blew it into the carb at the choke butterfly valve. Still no joy...not even a splutter.
Any ideas to help a newbie out would be much appreciated. Thanks.
