Just picked up a 06 Bayliner 175 with a 3.0L thats been sitting for years. I'm very boat worthy with outboards but never played IO. Boat ran perfect before vacation but now is dead. I plan to start with a batt but need help with restart. Should I drain fuel, change oil, plugs, filters, service outdrive, waterpump or whatever? All help will be greatly appreciated.

Completely drain the fuel cell and clean along with all the fuel lines, pick up tube in the tank the anti siphon valve and vent to the tank, change all the filters and fluids as with a tune up(plugs cap rotor and or point and wires) then check and clean, lubricate and tighten all electrical connections. Don't be suprised if a carb rebuild isn't in the near future as well. Tis is just for starters but should get you off on the right foot. Good luck and post back with the results

When you have the plugs out, blast a few squirts of penetrating lube into the cylinders. Marvel mystery oil works also. Allow this to sit whiile you finish the other work.

Rotate the engine with the plugs out by hand with a large ratchet or breaker bar in case the rings are seated to the cylinder walls.

You probably wouldn't have to change the cap/rotor/plugs unless it got moisture in them from sitting, but it's chicken soup...couldn't hurt. Also, if one is bad, it could keep you from chasing a problem later.

The water pump impeller in the outdrive or the water pump on the engine? Engine should be OK unless it has had salt water sitting in it for a year. The outdrive impeller is probably dryrotted.

Check the outdrive lube for water. If the level is OK and it doesn't look milky, it should be fine.
