I have a 74 50 HP on the boat now and normally fish alone or with one other person. There was no prop on motor when i got it and i have a old 13-1/4 X 17 in prop that i put on just to test her out.

I would like to know what i should look to buy for this set up

16' aluminum fisher marine
74 50hp
has no decking or extra weight just 2 bench seats and a bow mounted trolling motor

As i do not have a tach yet (on order) i am afraid to open her up with the prop thats on her for fear of over reving it.
any help at all would be a great help

Thanks Brian

When you get the tach and some RPM figures, we can then make some recommendations...

Ok got the tach but thinking it's about a 1000 rpm's off.

but WOT is at 6400 or 5400 RPM's
will plane out in about 2 seconds runing about 2200 rpms

Not sure what would cause the tach to be running highr rpm's as it is set for at 5 pole but it tells me i am idling at 2000 rpms and i know thats not right lol.

oK SOLVED the tach problem and running 5400 at WOT is this a good number for this set up or should i change the prop to something different as i am buying a new one to replace this old beatup old one.

She planes fine and quickly but i think i could pick up some top end speed

Thanks Brian

You can pick up rpm and speed by raising the engine on the transom 1 hole at a time and test...
Problem is...I don't know what your old beater prop is like...it could be in a fasion that would lower rpm or completely the other way around.
I think I would stick with the same size and work with the set-up to get a 150-200 more RPM.
