Was out on the river yesterday doing some wakeboarding when all the sudden, there was a loud boom, clank, thud, type of sound, and I knew we had hit something( I was wakeboarding and heard it). Right away my wife stopped the boat, i thought just because she was scared, but it was because she couldnt steer! So I swam back to the boat, very quickly
and had her turn it off, trim it all the way up so I could look at things, and sure enough the skeg was chewed up, and the prop looked like it got in a fight with something bigger than it. So, we trimmed back down, started the boat, and everything was fine, steering and all, so we headed back to the docks to trailer the boat back home for further inspection. While at the docks, the water safety officer wanted to chat, and seen the damage to the prop and skeg, and wondered where we did that. I told him the location and he said, ohhh, that happens alot, we need to get a buoy up there...............
Apparently there is a water inlet for the powerplant, that sits below the surface of the water. He said they usually have a buoy there, but must not have on there this year yet.......................
Now to the carnage:
Now, heres the dangerous game I play. My wife thinks this is the worst thing in the world, and wants to get it fixed ASAP, from what i've read here its not as bad as it might seem. This allows me to spend money
Ive been eyeballing some smart tabs to replace my hydrofoil. While im at it Im going to get 1 or 2 new props, which Ill post about in the prop section(looking for advice). But anyway back to the skeg.
What should I do about it? Does it need completely replaced? I was looking at my overtons and seen some skeggards. Would this be a good option?
I also saw the Blackfin Sleg, which I couldnt find in the iboats store, does it really do what it claims to do?
Some quick claims:

Some quick claims:
Made from incredibly tough nylon composite that is stronger than steel
Gets you on plane quicker and holds you on plane longer at lower speeds
The added surface area of the Blackfin helps improve stability and handling while decreasing chiming and walking
