Re: skeg repair

You could just file it smoothe like you suggested. There should not be a significant effect on handling. However,if it were mine I would fit weld another piece to it and reshape.I troll in shallow lagoons a lot and like the extra measure of distance between the skeg bottom and gearcase.

Re: skeg repair

Put a SkeGGard on it.

No skeg guarantees a broken prop.

Re: skeg repair

Skeg protects the prop. It's important.

The Ozzies have a thing called SkegProtector. It's tougher than a SkegGard - fits to a broken skeg and curves underneath the prop. Protects the prop when running in shallows with shingle bottom, or when going astern.

Saw it years ago. Can't find the website, but someone else is bound to know.

I have a stainless skeg guard on mine and it works fine. I didn't know about the SkegProtector at the time or else I would have looked into that.
