I bought a very used Ski-bird water kart....at least I think that is what it is called. It is 8' long, carries one person and seems to be 1960 or 1970. It is just a shell and has no steering or cables. Wondering if anybody knows of a website to get me more info. Wondering how the original steering setup was and max horsepower.

I found a few pictures on the internet to show you...

Thanks...3582462276_3e08b386ba[1].jpgimagesCAMZPDPX.jpgpapers.JPGpapers3.JPGCapture5.JPG

Your third picture says 18 hp

That's the most info I have seen......is what you displayed. I imagine it was the old cable pulley steering.

I did find one peice of info on horsepower and it said 20hp for the 8'. The transom is badly cracked and will have to cut the back end off to fix. I traded some non needed dock floats for it... ($200). Thought about the pulley system too but a look under the dash shows no mounting points under it so thinking an early type of push pull cable (rack and pinion) steering?

Really cool!
The fourth picture shows that apparently, in the 60's, the ski tow boat did not need an observer!

As long as you have a mirror you are legal in some states (MN for example)
