Ski-Breeze sailboats: Anyone ever heard of this manufacturer?

In January, 1992 I had surgery to fix a left inguinal hernia. I also bought an 18 foot sailboat~

[I went out with friends to a house party that very evening~]

It was frustrating to sit around my parents house in Michigan...while my new boat was tied to a mooring point in Vero Beach, Florida. I knew nothing about sailing, but the down time allowed me to read books from the local library about sailing, and two weeks later when I finally got back to Florida....my first stop was the marina.

Me and "Lewdmilla" had a two-year "romance" that hasn't ended. I had to sell the boat in 1994 due to the fact that I took a job flying in northern Virginia, and couldn't keep it up. Also, this woman that worked at my previous company wanted it bad, and I figured that she was way more likely to take care of it and enjoy it. So I sold it to her.

-I've been pissed ever since! I could have easily afforded to pay the mooring fees, and I moved back to Florida in the summer of 1994. Now I own a house on a canal in Fort Lauderdale, and this boat would be perfect for the long canal just north of my canal. I've contacted the woman that bought it from me, and she told me that it was damaged beyond repair by a wayward piling barge that was building a dock at the house next to hers.

It was a Ski-Breeze sailboat from 1959. This boat is 18.5 feet long [or...more properly...6 meters], and was built in Sweden. It has a strong transom on the back, and can accept up to 60 hp motors(!). The boat was designed so that it can be a sailboat one day, and a powerboat the next when the mast and stays were removed.

--This is a GREAT idea---

[I've always toyed with the idea of putting a 60 hp Yamaha on the back, and putting up the sails and then turning on the motor and going up the river at 30 mph...with a wake! HEH!]

Why this boat isn't produced anymore is beyond me. I posted this on another website and a woman in Sweden sent me pictures and a link to her own Ski-Breeze. Apparently, they built 70 of these boats; mine had "Ski 38" on the sails, which were obviously fairly new in the early '90's.

Check this out- Tommy SCORED! I bought this 18 foot sailboat, complete with all the sails in good (!) condition...including the friggin spinnaker, along with a 5 hp British Seagull Silver Century 102 outboard for the grand sum of...

$200-

I'M NOT KIDDING! And what is more, the Vero Marine Center charged me the grand total of $10 per month for that mooring point. Since they didn't have enough boats for all the slips they had...they usually kept my little Lewdmilla in a dock.

-There is just NO WAY you can find any marine situation cheaper and more fun than this one! I took, over the two years I owned it...probably 50 people out on that boat and we all had so much fun it wasn't even funny. There is an island north of Vero Beach called "Boat Club Island", and I used to sail up there, drop the motor and sails, and then tie up. I'd pull up the cooler, and then we would have hamburgers on the grills that existed there. Among the people that I took up there was the chief pilot of Asiana Airlines, a company that contracted training to the company I worked for. He was also the standing Minister of Transportation of South Korea at the time.

enough of the "name-dropping"; I miss that little sailboat!

"Lewdmilla" apparently is destroyed. Has anyone ever heard of this brand of boat? Has anyone ever heard of anything similar? I've been told that my boat resembled a "Laser", and a "Flying Scot". I've looked at those boats on the web, and I have to say that my 1959 Ski-breeze was just a bit more of a tub than those. All I know is that while it could take 7 people with ease...it didn't do anything fast!

Thanx!
