We have a 20' Skipper Craft that has water in one fiberglass pontoon. Who makes this boat? THere doesn't seem to be a website address.

Does anyone know how many cells there are and where thay are located, so we can drill holes and get the water out?

Is there a hull ID of 12 characters? If so, take the first 3 letters (known as the MIC) and type them in at this USCG site:
http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_database.htm

That will tell you who made them and if they are in business still.

Even so, that probably won't help much. What I would recommend is doing a search in this forum (both in this category and in the Boat Restoration and Building category).

It might take some fiberglass work. Hopefully there isn't much foam in there that has soaked up a lot of water. You might even want to install som drain plugs IF that can be safely done in these fiberglass pontoons. Fiberglass pontoons aren't nearly as common as aluminum ones so this may be a difficult question.

Bayman

There is a plug on the back end, but someone who used to build aluminum pontoons told me there are probably separate compartments and may not drain as holes drain holes could be at the top.

Thanks. ba_50

Yes, that is very common on aluminum pontoons. I couldn't tell you what the standard is on fiberglass toons as hardly anyone makes them.

Have you tried the plug on the back end? Does water drain out?

Do you have the year of the boat and any other model information? Sometimes it is possible to find the weight of the boat. That way you can tell if there may be a lot or just a little water in the toons.

Yes we opened the back plug but still low in left front end and lists way over.

I'm assuming it is on a trailer. If so, is there a trailer jack on the trailer in the front? If there, I would jack up the boat so that it is higher in front as to try and get the water to run out of the back drain plug.

No, it's in the water and probably too heavy for the trailer. We hoisted the front end up with a davit and that didn't help, so there must be compartments in it.

Wow, is it sitting really low in the water compared to how most pontoon boats sit in the water? It seems that it has to get out of the water somehow in order to drain the boat.
