gotta 1994 evinrude 120 that is a lil hard to start and keep at an idle first time cranked. i have changed the plugs recently. when you open throttle, it acts like its skipping but then clears up and you're fine for the rest of the day. any suggestions?

Re: skipping 120

First thing I did was order the factory service book and go through my engine from top to prop.

Compression test.
Spark GAP test with spark gap set to 3/8th inch.
If those tests are good then rebuild carbs with new kits.

Auto stores sell compression guages and adjustable spark testers.
Don't buy the neon spark tester, you need the gap type.

agree start at the beginning. compression and spark test with testers. could be as simple as a bad coil.

compression is good. 125 on all. plug gap is fine also. just put them in a month ago thinking that could be the problem. only does it when you first crank. doesn't like to idle good. hate to rebuild all those carbs until i know for sure that's what it is.
