skipping motor

1990 Johnson faststrike 150 idles ok then almost quits and then smooths out again it real quick plugs look ok some said I should decarbonize it would that help or run some additive it the gas. WOT is about 5500rpm's and 64mph and strong it's only at idle????

If it seems like a sneeze it may indicate a lean condition.
Possibly dirty carbs.You could try a carb cleaner type additive though not likely to solve the problem.

Decarb process will clean carbon out of the cylinders doesn't help the carburettors though. See the decarb thread in the Engine FAQ forum.

Sounds like a partial blockage in a carb idle circuit, calls for a carb rebuild. If you want to try fuel additive use Sea Foam. Great stuff but to clean a dirty carb it has to be taken apart.
