Re: Skype

I use it to call China occasionally. There is a bit of a delay, but it's not bad considering the cost. You can try it out by just putting a few bucks in your account, I think $10 or less.

Re: Skype

I don't have any experience with Skype, but I have used Wengo for computer to computer phone calls. The clarity was amazing with no lag time at all. Wengo has a pay for play plan too for calls to regular POTS lines, but for computer to computer calls , they're free. Simple headset with mic is all that's needed.

Re: Skype

[colour=blue]Thanks for the replies,

Skype is free when calling skype to skype but costs a few cents per minute when calling a normal landline (anywhere!). I think I'll give it a try. I supose that the trick is - get all my friends onto it also.

In my case I am afraid that number wouldn't fund a very large operation. ;) You do have my number, don't you?

Re: Skype

Aldo,

You can find me on Skype. We use it a lot for biz. Even for teleconferences. All Skype to Skype. You need a good Skype connection (kind of a roll of the dice, but seems better all of the time), a decent Internet connection, and no one should multitask. If someone is surfing, things slow down or get weird . . . The chat thing is handier than email too if both parties are online.

Edit: I just tried to find you. There are 10 Aldo's around Melbourne. One dunaruna Worldwide, no cap D. I don't think they were you. I'm the real me, me, me, me, me . . .

Re: Skype

[colour=blue]I have not signed up yet, been to busy, but I'll do it in the next week or so. I'm a little surprised about the multiple Aldo's!

I have heard that if you have a skype internet phone, it rings like a normal phone - as long as the computer is on and the broadband connection is active. Is that true?

I was surprised by the Aldo's too . . . 8)

I don't have an "internet phone" . . . My computer speakers ring and I speak through a built-in mic. Sound quality can be 10 times better than a phone (scientific evaluation) . I am speaking with a guy in the UK right now and we have enough of a delay that using "over" would be appropriate . . .

Absolutely, and my phone number seems to be common knowledge around here. Look at the bottom of my email, half the time it is there. You have mail.....

Yes. They even have standalone wifi phones, so all you need is a wifi signal (public or otherwise :devil: ) and you basically have a free cell phone. You can also buy a device that hooks up to your computer and to your hard wired phone line so all your old phones work with the internet.
