After installing my new prop and finally getting the boat into the river for the summer. I went back through some of my boxes and papers from all the add-ons I've done this year. I was looking again at the paperwork for the Michigan Wheel Vortex prop I put on. I noticed on the installation paper that it does not show a spline washer like on the ss prop I removed. BUT, I installed the hub with thrust washer, hub, prop, brass hub, spline washer then washer and nut.. I called Michigan Wheel today and the lady said I do not need the OEM spline washer. Seemed to run fine Friday.. How do I remove the spline washer while the boat is at the slip???

Guess this was a duhhhh moment..

If you got the prop on with the spline washer, and the nut is secure with the lock washer tabs in place, then don't worry about it. Put differently, why are you concerned about getting the washer off?

If you do need to get it off then the answer to your question depends on your boat's design. I can change a prop in the water with my boat and not get wet, it is very precarious and if you drop anything then . . . well you know what happens . . . The other option is to go swimming. Both options are much easier with some help from inside the boat.
