Hi guys if ain't one Things it's another I
Tell ya..
In the process of changing a busted ujoint I see oil coming out from
Behind the yoke area that goes into the actual drive ..
I believe it's the oil seal carrier ? Or is it normal for little oil to come out of the drive is at certain angle ? Usually if its tilted up ? I hope it's something simple ..

Here's a pic of the seal I think is the cause of the slight oil leak into the bellows ?

The oil seal carrier ?

Nothing normal about a leak. You will want to do a pressure test on the outdrive. Any oil in the bellows?

Sorry to say that unfortunately no leak is normal on these drives. You may want to perform an air pressure check but most likely you'll need to change out the seal to avoid any stern drive damage specially since you found oil inside the U-joint bellows.

:tea:Here's hoping your luck turns around for the better soon. :encouragement:

If you see gear oil , its a leaker, If the drive has the original gear set it will slip off the yoke. No rolling torque needed just tighten the nut for reassembly .

I did find water and oil / grease in the bellows.. but now I'm pretty certain it's gear oil not grease slush..

I hope so, so just order a spanner wrench and which seal ? It's a metal and rubber one right ?
So just take all those pieces and just replace it and put it back in order and tighten bolt ?

Depends on the drive. I didn't see which drive you have, though BT thinks you have an older one. If that's the case, you need this seal and a large o-ring (can't find the link atm), and a large hose clamp, and can just torque the pinion nut on the end. A newer drive (not sure when they switched over) needs to use rolling torque method to set preload. More involved, and needs a torque dial. The older drives have a small spacer that's missing from the newer ones. Anyone know why they switched the design to use rolling torque?

I have an alpha one gen 2 ( 2003 bayliner 205 5.0 engine )

What tools and parts do I need to fix this dilemma I have now? And do you think water got into the drive of oil got out ?

pretty sure its rolling torque. Still easy to do. The original oem seal from the old days is now National 712250 . Fit all the Alpha series. Merc has gone thru few bad designs and failures but the one for the GEN II looks very, very similiar in construction
The GEN II seal kit is 18-2644

So I just need that 1 seal and spanner wrench?
Replace the seal and torque down? Don't I have to replace with new nut and washer ?

Once you remove the gear from the yoke , everything is free. Remove the old seal drive in a new seal .any large flat "thing" to press the seal back in flush.
reinstall the components and start to tighten the nut. If you cant rotate the bearing pack you went too far and will need to loosen the nut and back off the gearset a touch and do it all over. Read the manual and then read it again to get it right .
If you can read a inch/lb torque wrench, you can do it correctly

Ok good so I'll order the spanner wrench and that national 712250 seal today..
also should I worry about pressure testing it and and all that ? Should I check if water got in ?

Let me see the seal, it looks like the seal was seated too deep . Most grooving occurs a bit more toward the middle. And a Speedi-Sleve will repair that too

Is pic 1 with the seal removed showing the metal band and is pic 2 showing the rubber end with the spring?
It appears the seal is backwards, the metal band of the seal is visable in the carrier when correctly installed
