I am looking for a solvent that will remove the stains from a painted surface without damaging the paint.It appears that the fuel tank vented from heat expansion on my bike and I also have a nearly full tank of boat gas mixed 50/1 with Mercury oil that I will want to clean out after I find a place that will accept old gasoline.I would judge that the gas is too old for any gas treatment to reclaim,15 years or so and I would not burn it in anything I own here.
I live in Connecticut and have made several calls to recycling places and scanned all the government agencies that I can find on line and noone will take the gas.I know that some used oil furnaces can use it but currently cannot find one locally that will take it off of my hands.It mixes with the oil that they burn and in fact it dilutes the oil for better consistancy before it passes through the burner nozzle but noone will touch it.Some recovery businesses will take oil from walkins but no gas.They are geared up to come to me and remove it but if I carry it to them they cannot be bothered.
My plan now is to use a very fine cleaning compound and rub the stain away but it would be nice to clean it chemically instead.I don't mind the work but just don't want to remove any paint in the process.Thanks for any ideas,this is a great forum.Ron G
