Slip Charges

Hello All,

I'm in Central Texas and I was wondering how my monthly slip charges compare to the rest of the country.

My houseboat slip fee, with taxes, is $185 per month plus any electricity that I use at 11 cents/KWH.

Also, I'm looking at buying a slip for my bassboat. The cost of the slip is $4,000 and the monthly slip fee is $98. This is for a 8 foot by 22 foot slip with a hydrolift.

So, how does this compare?

Thanks,
texasvet

Re: Slip Charges

slips up here are painfully expensive. For a 20' foot boat, its about $1000 for 4 months of use if you are lucky. No services whatsoever, just a floating dock to tie up to.

Re: Slip Charges

Here are the 3 main marinas in Malletts Bay on Lake Champlain in Vermont
Champlain Marina:
* $88.00 per foot LOA
* Minimum seasonal charge $2,250.00
* $299.00 electricity/utility fee
* $175.00 for air conditioning
Daily Transient Rate
* $2.25 per foot per night LOA
* Minimum $60.00 per night
* $2.00 per foot LOA for BOAT US members

The Moorings (which, ironically, only have slips)
$87.00 per foot LOA with $2400.00 minimum for A, B & C DOCKS
$87.00 per foot LOA with $2900.00 minimum for BREAKWATER DOCK
SHORE POWER
$225.00 - One 30 amp Cord, NO Air Conditioning on Board
$400.00 - Two 30 amp Cords AND OR Air Conditioning on Board

Jakes Malletts Bay Marina
They don't have a website, but last I checked, it was $42/ft for a mooring and $85/ft for a slip, and I don't know what power costs.

Up here, you pay up front, and thats it for the season. Same for winter storage. Ive wintered at Jakes, and it includes hauling the boat, storage, and a launch in the spring. Costs me about $1000 for what I call 38ft of boat.

Re: Slip Charges

Hmmmm, sounds like I have a pretty good deal compared to the prices you guys listed.

I forgot to add that my houseboat is a 52 footer and it is in a covered slip that I own. I had to give 12K for it, which I really don't understand because the club I belong to didn't get a penny of that when I bought the slip.

The slip that I may be buying for my bass boat is also covered and the electricity to charge my batteries is free, although that is obviously a minor part of the $98 monthly fee. My only concern on that slip is that for the months of November through March, I'm paying 98 bucks a months and the boat usage will be minimal. Still, I can see how it is nice not to have to haul my boat to the lake and launch it, especially in the spring and fall when the water temp is in the 50's.

Re: Slip Charges

I have a slip on the Chesapeake and my marina currently charges $52/ft. which is CHEAP for this area.
With taxes and the STUPID 'user fee' I end up right at $1900 for my 34 footer.
Electricity is metered and water is included.
This is a 12 month slip, so I keep the boat floating all year.
Oh, and the slip lease includes unlimited use of the launch ramp- perfect for all our other toys.

Re: Slip Charges

April - October: $2,000. That is relatively inexpensive as most locations here are around $4,000 for the same time period. It's going to be relative to the condition of the docks, facilities, parking, access to water and demand in the area. More users, less dockage = more expensive.

Re: Slip Charges

A couple years back I paid $800 for slip in a marina with my 14 footer. Normally it would be $1200 minimum but I was able to smooth talk my way into a slip unsuitable for large boats since it was shallow. Not too bad of a deal but it's a short boating season up here in NY and the boat was vandalized at this place so I no longer go there.

This season I was lucky enough to find a real nice woman (Craigslist) to rent me dock space at $40 per foot. $560 for the season and she goes out of her way to make sure I am happy. She owns a construction company, has a work-horse barge, can handle any hardware and drinks beers with me when I come in off the water! =)

Couldn't be happier with the arranegment.

Cheapest here is $900 for just sitting in the water. A nicer Marina with more amenities is around $2,500 for my 20'.

That's not too bad. I live in Holland and would slip it, but I don't want to pay a ton. Are you anywhere near me?

DFW area!! Joe Pool @ Lynn Creek Marina 24ft covered without hoist $2400 a year. Must sign agreement for whole year, no partial year rentals. This is my first year and I'm really enjoying having the boat ready to go!

Re: Slip Charges

Want me to make you guys sick...

Central CT.

- $280 dues
- $300 slip fee (for the season)
- $150 winter storage
- $0 haul/launch fee
Total = $730
They did just add a $250 one year fee last night... but very hard to complain. Normally your looking at 3-4 times as much minimum on the river and 5 times on the sound.

Re: Slip Charges

Here in Metro Detroit/Lake St.Clair, I always found a private canal (back of a private residence), and they would rent space out for $4-600 per season. then pay another $400 to pull wrap and store for winter. Lots of the marina slips go for over $1k a year, but I never would pay that much.
This was a 24 footer.

Now I trailer my 19 run about, all over and just pay lots of gas bills.

Re: Slip Charges

We pay $1,850 per season (May - October) which includes water and electric for a 25' boat.

Keeping the trailer on the property is an additional $250 per season, but we just take it home.

Re: Slip Charges

Well, I went ahead and put my 17 foot fish-n-ski in the slip last night, launched my jet ski off the back of my houseboat that has a lift, rode for 30 seconds over to the fish-n-ski, let the air out of the lift, ran the fish-n-ski and jetski all over the northern half of the lake and had a ball.

In one day, I've decided that it is worth the almost $1,200 a year to have the boat ready to go at the slip. It's only money and you can't take it with you. The wife was happy as can be because she has been the one that would back the trailer down the ramp when we were pulling the boat out of the water.

Not having to argue on the way home about why my wife took her half of the double ramp out of the middle - PRICELESS.

Re: Slip Charges

Here's a snip of an ad for a Marina in Mandeville, LA which is on Lake Ponchatrain - which gives you protected access thru the Rigolets to the Gulf. Very popular boat area.

"$5.45 per ft/per month with a one year lease. Slip includes water, electricity, pump out, trash pickup, Wi-Fi, shower, laundry facilities, and 24 hour live security" They have slips up to 70ft. in length.

Year lease isn't a big deal down here where boating is a 12 month deal.
