I know this question has been asked before but I woulld like some feedback as the aswers I read didn't nail it on the head so to speak. I just bought a 67 Sears 14ft (actually 13.6ft) V hull aluminum. It s not the super heavy guage aluminum and I just purchased a smal boat trailer that had a broken spring. I ordered the smallest ones I could that were rated at 500lbs each. These are the two leaf slipper springs im talking about. 1989 Johnson 8hp will be on the transom and not a lot of extras in the boat. Total weight i'm guessing on the springs will not exceed 350lbs. I havnt installed the springs yet and am quite tempted to remove the small helper leaf but don't know if it will be two soft afterward. Has anybody had similar experience. I dont want to let some air out of the tires to soften the ride. it jyst seems like 1000lb capacity is a little much for my rig.

Re: Slipper Leaf removal

I have a 1436 jon with a 25hp motor and TRAILER that weigh in at 700. I just replaced the mono leaf springs on my trailer with 3 leaf springs rated at 750# each. It seems like a good match. I think you will be ok with the 2 leaf set up.

Re: Slipper Leaf removal

leave them as they are and install them.

You don't want to lessen the integrity of the spring. And you don't want the trailer to bounce up and down.

And you are right, don't lower the air pressure either.
