Hi guys, I finally took my boat out on the water today 14' fiberglass with 18 HP Evinrude (Model #18802A) after replacing the impeller, cleaning carb, and replacing oil in lower unit. The engine ran great up until the way back to the dock when at high RPMs it seemed that it would slip out of gear. When I would hit almost full throttle it would just all of the sudden rev really high and not go anywhere. Then I would lower the throttle and it would be fine at lower RPMs. So I basically just chugged along slowly until I made it to the dock. It seems it didn't have as much power at this point too. Any ideas? I haven't checked the lower unit oil to see what's up in there yet. You help is much needed and appreciated!

Sounds like prop hub is worn out. Scribe a line on hub and prop, and take for wide open run, if lines dont still match, worn hub. post back results.

I am pretty new to boating/outboard motors. From what I've read, it seems that this is the problem. If it IS indeed the problem, what part would I have to buy in order to fix it? Also, I read somewhere that I'd have to have a machine shop put the piece on there or something? More details would help tremendously...

A propeller shop can fix it. Otherwise you must buy a new propeller.
