I changed my water pump this year and now I am having problems with shiftting. Reverse is fine but now I an hearing tapping noise while in Forward. and it starting slipping if I going any faster then a 1300 rpm's. Did I cause this by not putting the lower unit back on correctly. Is there anything I might have mised???

Regal,
It could be a matter of adjusting your clutch cable. Did you have any trouble reattaching the clutch shaft when you replaced the lower unit>

Also it's helpful to say what motor/year/hp?

Yes, Sorry that would help...91, Mercury 115hp power trim outboard. I did have a hard time lining up the gear ****. I am now wondering if I put it back on out of adjustmnet? .Well I guess back to the drawling board.
