Slow speed mixture adjustment

Hellow, i have a question about adjusting the slow speed mixture screws on evenrude outboards, i have read that you realley cant get a good adjustment in a barrel or horse trough or on the muffs you can only get it close , you have to final tune it at the lake , i belive it has somthing to do with exaust back pressure , when you run it on the muffs the mix will be on the leaner side so when you put it in the lake higher water around the lu it will be richer side, can some one maybe chime in here to see if my observation is right. Thank you all

Check the Top Secret Files at the beginning of this forum. I believe Joe Reeves has a good explanation.

What you have read is correct. You can get it close in a test tank, but fine tuning must be done on the lake.

+1. I was about a 1/8 turn too lean when I lake tested on my 25R73. But you can get pretty close in a barrel
