Hello, I'm trying to start a Mariner 175 hp V6 engine which has not been used for a while. I think it is from late 80's. However when I try to start the engine, the starter motor turns very slowly. I have a fresh 100 Ah marine battery, but maybe it is too weak for the starter motor? What battery do I need to start this engine? Do you think it is related to the battery at all? Maybe it is another fault with the starter motor?

first, charge the battery. a 100Ah battery may be a bit small, may be a bit large. what is the CCA rating (cold cranking amps). pull the battery out of your truck to test if you suspect your battery.

second, clean all the contacts on all the battery cables. they need to be clean enough to eat off of.

Also, you say marine battery. Is this marine starting or marine deep cycle?? Clean all you connections on your starter motor, solenoid, and battery terminals.

I recently had problems with my OLD STARTER
ONLY TURN FAST WITH A 1200 CCA BATTERY
ANY BATTERY UNDER 1200 CCA WAS NOT ABLE TO DO TURN
I REPLACED MY OLD STARTER WITH A SHEAP EBAY AND NOW START FAST WITH A 650 CCA BATTERY
