Have a Chrysler Sea King 4HP Outboard. I was stoked when I found my parts, condensor and some pull start metal brackets etc.

Good news is I have a great spark now and the pull start works good. Bad news is I am not getting any gas to the plug.

I have cleaned the carburater thoroughly many times. The gas is getting to the float bowl great, so I know it is not the fuel line, etc.

But not being sucked into the powerhead. I made sure the reed between the two was not stuck.

I have no idea what the issue may be.

How does the gas get from the float bowl area to the powerhead for combustion? I know this is where my problem area is, just don't know what else to do.

I did get it to backfire a couple times when I primed the plug.
Thanks much

cheeseburger ciscobb@yahoo.com

One thing I forgot to mention is sticking my hand over the carberator while cranking it, I felt no suction going in.

Someone break the bad news to me, I guess this means the rings are bad?

is it gravity feed or a pressure tank?
have you check compression yet?
good luck,
M.Y.

Hi Cheeseburger: Assuming that your carb is really clean (all jets are clear and open) and that fuel is getting to the bowl (assume you have a gravity feed tank and the tank cap vent is open), try spraying a little gas into the carb throat and see if the engine will pop or start. You said you primed the plug- I assume this means you squirted gas directly into the cylinder. If you are getting suction thru the carb spraying in some gas should get some kind of action. It's pretty hard to feel the suction with one hand and pull the start rope with the other so don't worry yet. If gas spray doesn't do anything, reeds aren't sticking, and compression is good, (if you don't have a comp. gauge hold your finger over the plug hole while cranking - you should feel air being forced in&out) - you may have installed your flywheel incorrectly. Make sure this is OK. If no compression, then pull the head and check the piston for a hole and/or a bad head gasket. Hope this helps.

One other thing: replace the spark plug if you haven't already done it. Sometimes spark plugs will leak compression and mimic more serious engine problems. Good luck!

Hi Cheese
If the compression in the cylender test good then you have no compression in the crank case. You need compression both ways. A leaking crankcase may be do to bad crankshaft seals, bad gasket behind the reed plate, hole in crankcase, etc.
