I have an 88 yamaha excel the bottom fuel pump will leak a few drops of fuel from weep hole when squeezing primer bulb. The motor will start but when accelerated bogs down and dies. Is my fuel pump bad?

yes, replace both pumps, but only after testing spark and compression. odds are high you need to clean the carbs as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. Compression was good ranging between 135 to 125. What is the best way to check for spark? I tried at night to be able to see the spark better and they all had spark but looked rather weak. I checked by pulling out plug put plug wire back on and touched plug to motor probably not the right way. Thanks for your help
