I have a 10 ft boat with an 8hp long shaft. I know I need a short shaft but I got a great deal on it and it run`s like new. Is my boat to small for a jack plate? Is it worth it? You can imagine what it does like it is. I`m not in the market for a new motor or boat right now. Need help from my fellow boaters or techs. Thanks Guys

Re: Small boat Jack plate

Faced with a similar situation on a bigger boat and motor, 14ft Aluminum Lonestar/25 Horse Johnson, my son was able to build up the transom to very nearly the right height so that the boat handled and steered the way it should. Any chance of you doing the same thing?

Re: Small boat Jack plate

I`m a member of another site and a guy gave me the specs of what he did. I took it to the welding shop and it should be done in a couple days. I took 1 1/2 inc tubing because my transom is 1 1/2 thick 13" long x 7" high. 7" is what I needed to come up. there gonna weld the tubing together and put a 1/8" piece of stainless on the front and back so it over hangs the transom by 5" and weld that to the tubing also stainless on the sides. Then I will drill four 3/8 holes and bolt it to the transom. So when I get it back it will look like a stainless box. I jumped right on this as this will work perfect for my set up. I can also trailer it as it will be sturdy. The guy that gave me the specs has a 15 hp motor and mine is an 8hp so it will work great.
