I've had a little 8hp Mercury sitting around for two years now. It hasn't seen regular use in almost three years. Its a '87 with 15inch shaft.

In 1999, the guy who had the motor before me spent big bux to get the whole thing rebuilt.
I too have spend a lot of time on this motor, It use to be rigged to remote controls on a 11' whaler, took me a whole weekend and a lot of comparing and cursing to take the remote controls off and put on a brand new tiller.

Until yesterday, it was sitting on a motor stand under my porch, I didn't to ANYTHING to it before I put it there, its been sitting there all winter. I pulled it into the garage , hooked up to the the hose and gas tank, pumped gas threw it and the thing started on the first pull! :) I was shocked, and now have a new found faith in it.

Now I've been thinking about what I should do with it. This motor isn't really worth anything, its such a good running motor its worth more to me just to have then to get a few hundred bucks for it, I want to keep it.

Thing is, we have two boats with good engines, a 11' BW and a 17' BW.

I'd like to find a small john boat to put this little motor on, and use a kind of a "beater boat" on this local rocky river, and I don't want to spend a lot of money. I don't know much about alum boats, are there many with 15" transoms? What should I expect to pay for a bare hull?

Probably able to find an old 14' aluminim duck boat for between $200 - $500 if your patient and turn a couple stones over.

just depends on how lucky ya get and the condition of the old craft.
