Small exhaust port ?

What is the use or purpose of the small exhaust port or outlet that we see on most of the outboard, it is located in the leg on top ??<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />Smoky

These are called exhaust relief ports Smokey....they take some of the back pressure off the cylinders for easier starting.
