Quick question, i have a small hole along the keel that is letting water in the boat and just above that i spot that has the gel coat worn to the fiberglass. I was going to repair these spots with marine tex from the outside and was wondering if thats ok. The small hole will be easy to fix and the worn out area is not through the fiberglass. will marine tex be appropriate or is there another method to use, i can post a pic later if necessary. Thanks

P.S. After the repair should i purchase a keel guard to protect it and prevent additional damage. Thanks

I don't like using something like Marine Tex (putty, filler) on an area that will take direct impacts like a keel, you really should use resin and glass to rebuild the area to the original shape. A keel guard type product will do a great job to protect it after the repair is done.
