I want to build a small inboard work boat. I wanted to place an 18-25 horse v-twin motor. in a 16 to 20 foot boat. However i need to know how to run the shaft out. And what kind of block it is to allow the shaft to spin and not leak. Thanks!

Re: small inboards

Interesting proposition you have there...

Have you considered a small diesel for your work boat? You my be able to find a diesel of that horsepower from a comercial lawn mower...
Check out some of these small diesels to give you an idea of whats out there...

The only real problem I can think of that you may encounter is finding a transmission that will work, but keep an eye out on e-bay because some interesting marine transmissions pop up there on occasion..

Inboard stuffing box Here is some information on what keeps the inboard shaft sealed and how to service it...

here's a picture of a typical shaft log and stuffing box assembly
Re: small inboards

A deisel does sound good. I would sure get more hualing power out of it. I do have a one cylinder deisel out of a generator. It's about 15 hp or more. I have not come up with a idea for a trans yet though. Good point! Thanks for the idea and shaft info!
